Saturday at Seasalter sands.

Now the weather forecast for today was a dry start with more of the wet stuff heading over for the afternoon! First priority was to motivate the hoomans and get them out of the house for a trip to the coast while the weather was nice.
After a lot of discussion I decided that we would go to Seasalter on the north coast of Kent.
First thing that happens when we get there is "His Lordship" demands his ball.
So for the first twenty minutes he charged about all over the place.
He ran here, there and everywhere

"Excuse me... would somebody please throw the ball to me"

Ball by this time is a bit camouflaged in the sand and pebbles.

"I am still waiting!!! I really would like to play too".

But Oh No, Taffy runs off with it again.

I amused myself another way. "There must be something I can catch in this water?"

Taffy came and looked too.

By this time the wind had become quite strong and I started to have a problem with my ears.

It seemed to be a source of amusement to the photographer of the day!
I am not vain but what exactly is the fascination with my ears?

The camera kept clicking and my ears kept standing to attention and then my coat started to part in places.

This really is not the look I strive for on a daily basis.
I became somewhat annoyed and declared no more photos to be taken while my ears were misbehaving.

But one more was taken anyway.
I look as if I am indicating to turn right!!
After a lot of exploring along the beach we decided to turn back. Taffy was feeling very thirsty as he managed to consume a lot of salt with the retrieving of his ball.
On the way back we met Duke, an English Setter. He was a very friendly chap and I introduced myself to him.

Then Taffy went up to him to say hello.
We had to sit on the grass for a while as Taffy was so wet and sandy. He had to dry off a bit before we got into the car.
He was sporting a somewhat bedraggled look by this time.
So you can guess what happened when we got home!
Yep, into the shower.
There was nearly enough sand to build a sand castle.

Our Easter weekend

Well our Easter weekend started off rather promisingly. We went to Derbyshire for a nice long weekend to enjoy the fresh air and have lots of nice walkies.

Our first trip out on Friday included a stop at a very interesting shop. We weren't allowed into the shop something to do with Health and Hygiene Regulations but "Oh Boy" the delicious aromas wafting out of the door were exquisite. Hooman came out carrying a large bag of shopping so it certainly got our hopes up that we were in for a treat.

We then drove to a place called Tissington and had a good walk along the Tissington Trail dodging snow and rain showers. We saw a very pretty rainbow.

We walked for miles.

The next day we went to a town called Chesterfield. It had a church with a very crooked spire!

Folklore has many explanations as to why the spire is crooked. One legend is that the Devil sat on the spire, and his weight caused it to buckle - OR that he wrapped his tail around it to keep his balance, and it twisted in sympathy. Another is that the Spire was so amazed to hear of a virgin being married in the Church that it twisted round in an effort to see this wonder for itself. This legend further adds that should this ever happen again, the Spire will straighten up!

However the reason why the spire is crooked is because it was built along with much of the rest of the church in the 14th century, it was straight for several centuries before it began to twist, probably as a result of unseasoned timber being used for its construction. It now leans nearly 9ft to the south and is still moving.

The church of Our Lady and All Saints.
A street in Chesterfield. Many of the streets date back to Medieval Times.

After a good walk around Chesterfield it was time to go home and have dinner.
Guess what came out to be cooked. A lovely piece of Spring Lamb from that fabulous Butchers shop.

We sat looking at it being prepared, willing it to fall to the floor at our feet. No such luck! It made it safely to the oven and was later consumed by the hoomans.

To make up for the extreme disappointment of not being able to sample the lamb we were given an Easter pressie. A bag of 24 yellow tennis balls to play with.

Molly pretended she wasn't interested.

Then she had a staring contest with a ball!

Pretended indifference.

Kept looking around at me to see what I was doing.

Well I decided to have a staring contest as well!!

Then I paused momentarily.......

Before sinking my teeth into it.

Who are you staring at?????

So they were some of the things we did over the Easter weekend.
Now we have "Auntie Blue" staying with us. She travelled all the way from Dreamingspires just to see little old me and my sister Molly.
If you want to read about Auntie Blue and the first few days of her visit I have put
a posting on her blog!!.

The Mission

I am on a mission! There is an irritating bird sitting in our Holly tree, just out of my reach and I need to sort it out! It makes silly noises and it is teasing me and I absolutely hate it. It is a Collared Dove and when it is not filling its beak with worms and grubs it sits and makes coo-co0-coo noises.
My purpose in life at the moment is to keep guard and make sure it does not build a nest. I couldn't cope with a family of the noisy blighters!! The hoomans are not too keen on me hunting so I have to walk out into the garden with Taffy and try to look nonchalant.

Wander over to the tree, look really innocent as if I am checking the tree is OK.

Make sure nobody is watching me.

Then sit and wait for the bird to fly down onto the lawn.

And keep on waiting. Patience is the key here.

Stand on tippy toes to try and scare it.

After absolutely ages it starts to move.

I launch myself onto the branches.

This is it I am going to get it!!!!!!!!!!

Oh no!

Taffy comes along and spoils my attack. Grrrrr

Abort mission and out of annoyance grab Taffy's favourite ball.

Sit down and proceed to chew his ball while he shouts in my left ear.

So another day and I still have not flushed this wretched bird from the Holly tree in my garden.
I will get him one day.

We've been invaded!

Well the weather is still pretty chaotic in the UK but the frogs have decided it is Spring!!!

Once again they are filling up our ponds! So far we have counted 63. Goody more for me to chase! These little amphibians will give me so much pleasure over the next 6 months, nothing quite like a good hop around the garden!

There is tons of frogspawn, it looks like somebody has emptied gallons of Tapioca pudding into our pond.

-------------------------------------

A lot of our friends have been posting about their hooman's creative skills. Well our hooman loves to make Teddy Bears. She makes them purely for pleasure and disappears into her special room for many hours while a new little bear is being born.

Meet Harriet and Boughton

Harriet

Boughton

Harriet and Boughton are made from Mohair, have suede paws, glass eyes and they have cotter pin joints.

Our hooman prefers to make more traditional bears, ie have a little hump on their backs and be able to stand on their 4 legs just as a real bear would be able to do.

Each Teddy is given a name when it is born. The names are based on local villages in Kent. Harriet was named after the village of Harrietsham and Boughton was named after the village of Boughton Monchelsea. There are so many villages in the County of Kent we don't think our hooman will run out of names for a while yet!

There is even a village called Bearsted! What a great place that would be for a bear to live!!
