Safety in water.

As you know Taffy and I adore the water. However, I have always been very aware of the dangers of swimming and playing in lakes and streams without due care and attention.

Now Taffy is water mad.

So I let him go in first and wait for his feedback as to how cold the water may be or if it is stony under paw. Basically he makes sure it is safe.

If he comes out looking happy I know I will enjoy having a paddle myself.

I proceed into the water till I reach my ankles and survey the landscape.

Sometimes I see wildlife and as a keen follower of David Attenborough I always feel it is my duty to ensure that any species I see is fully investigated.

I nonchalantly make my way towards my sighting.......

Well sometimes I do rush a bit, so enthusiastic am I.

Taffy follows on behind.

Now on this particular occasion things went a bit square shaped.

The bottom of the lake disappeared very suddenly.

It caught me totally by surprise. My back end started to sink and I splashed around wondering what on earth had happened. I must have found a hole in the lake and started to fall down it.

I was left flapping away looking a right ninny while Taffy still had his 4 paws on the pebbles!

I had to quickly regain my composure and get back to the lake shore.
I was NOT happy. What a shock that was.

I am still pondering as to what happened to me that day. The water could not have been deep! It was only half way up the duck and he was way shorter than me!

Moral of the story: Look for the plug hole before entering any body of water.

A bit more about our holiday.

I just wanted to tell you a little more about our holiday. I know it happened quite a while ago now but I keep thinking how much I enjoyed myself and with Taffy posting about Winter coming along I just wanted to hang onto my memories of the Summer holidays for a little longer.

One day we visited the lovely village of Grasmere situated right in the middle of The Lake District.

The hoomans were browsing through some of the lovely little village shops when I spied a rather handsome looking Boxer wearing a rather posh coat. He was standing looking out of his window so I thought I would pop over and introduce myself.

He completely ignored me!!!

Thinking he may be myopic I tapped on his window.

Still no response. I could not believe it. No interpersonal skills whatsoever! No wonder he looked miserable.
I left him to it and we continued walking.

Just around the corner we reached Grasmere Church.

It looked very pretty with all the Autumn colours surrounding it.

Now a very famous person is buried here in the grounds of the church.....

William Wordsworth.

Hoomans treated us to a full recital of his very famous poem

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Having had a good sniff around the village I pointed out that the clouds were becoming rather dark in colour and if we were to have our promised walk around a lake we had better get a move on.

We drove to Lake Windermere.

We hadn't been walking long when I saw what I thought to be an extremely dangerous object. It was a World War 2 mine. Thankfully it was safe and
was being used as a huge coin collection receptacle for local charities.

Then there were some nice fat geese waddling along the lake shore.

And a rather haughty looking swan.

Fortunately it did not rain where we were but it must have done so in the next valley as a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky and I took a moment to reflect about my friends who had travelled over it during the last year.

Now the next picture is very special to Taffy.

When we travelled home at the end of our holiday we had a 300 mile journey south to where we live.

We stopped every so often to stretch our legs and on one occasion we parked in a very busy Motorway Service station and had some lunch.

As we were eating the hoomans suddenly shouted:

"There's a Welshie!"

We could not believe it!

My Mum hooman is very nosey and she jumped out of the car and ran after the little Welshie.

After interrogating the owner for 5 minutes about where they lived, what was her name, how old etc etc we realised something amazing!!!!

This little Welshie girl, called Bronwyn is Taffy's sister!!!!!!

Don't they look alike?

The chances of us meeting like that must have been a million to one.

Bronwyn came over to say hello. You could tell immediately Taffy and Bronwyn were related.....

It was all the Grrrrrrrrrrrrr's that did it!!

What an amazing way to finish our holiday.

It is the end of British Summer time, tonight the clocks go back one hour.

It is going to become cold and the nights will be long and dark.

Wrap up warm when you go out.

Snuggle in your bed with a warm blanket.

Make sure you have the best place in front of the fire!

A Lake District walk.

When we visited The Lake District we had a fabulous time.
One of my favourite days was when we went to Crummock Water. It was a bright, slightly crisp day, just right for a walk....... upwards!

After a short drive we arrived at the lake and parked the car.

The locals appeared to be having a meeting.
Perhaps they were organising a welcoming committee for us.

This did indeed appear to be the case when a smart young lady came and asked if we would be her friend. Only if we can play "chase" I said.

Taffy in his usual inimitable style ignored her and trotted off to find the nearest source of water.

I spotted a rather nice hill I fancied climbing.

Nothing to do with the fact there were sheep grazing there.............honest!

Taffy having finished his drink from the stream started to become impatient and ordered us to hurry up.
Perhaps I was a little distracted and the going was slow but I did so want to show the hoomans the sheep hiding in the ferns.

I was encouraged to leave them alone.

I did give one of my pleading looks, didn't work.
So on we marched.
Taffy stopped to admire the view.

We continued onwards and upwards until I noticed that Taffy was no longer behind me.

Being my usual helpful self I went back to see if I could lend him a helping paw.
You sure you don't want any help Taffy?

The reply was along the lines of.......
No thank you dearest sister, I can cope just fine dragging my hooman up this hill even though I am 8 years old and half your size!!!
The photo is a little blurry, I had to move quickly before I lost my head!!!!

Taffy's sunny natured disposition had returned by the time we were approaching the lower slopes at the end of the walk and he said Hi to a sheep.

I on the other hand really thought it would be more fun to play.
Such a shame I couldn't.

Now Taffy is a man on a mission here.
Nose to the ground, searching........

Yep, he found what he wanted. Nice sheep poo to chomp on.
An attempt was made to coerce him to drop it.

It didn't work and here he is licking his lips after enjoying his little snack.

Eeeeeeeuuuugh you may be saying......I had to sit next to him in the car for the journey home.
