Our Yorkshire holiday. Part 2. By Monty.

This was my first holiday in Yorkshire.

Molly had told me so much about the Airedale valley.
I was very excited at the prospect of dipping my paws in the River Aire.

This was my first sighting.
The water was very noisy and quite deep due to the high rainfall here in the UK.
I don't have to go in  just now do I?

Perhaps a bit later...
We had a very pleasant walk and then returned to the car park where we found the locals had laid on some entertainment for us.  Hen spotting!
Let's chase them Taffy.

I would if I could but the dead weight at the end of my leash is proving difficult to move!
Taffy, they are hiding behind the rock on the right.
No they're not it's the rock on the left.
Winnie: I am going to sit down and ambush them.
Unfortunately the silly hens ran away so that ended our enjoyment.

So we decided to drive the short distance to Malham Tarn where the River Aire rises.

There were magnificent views
Locals to greet us
We loved it.
The conditions up by the tarn could only be described as bracing.
Winnie covered her face, silly girl.
Taffy being the little tough guy  just stood there and at one point I thought he was going to take off. His ears went out like aeroplane wings.
Winnie finally accepted the wind and sat and admired the view.
We would have loved to been able to run free.
But with all the livestock on the moor we had to stay on our leads.
Back down to the visitor centre so the staff could drink tea and eat cake.

Above the doorway to the tea rooms was a nest of House Martins.
Mummy House Martin flew in and all the beaks were wide open.
Here she is feeding them.
Then the hens returned......
Followed by the local cat.
By this time we were safely in the car and we sat and watched as they circled around us.

The hens were very careful to keep a safe distance from the cat but at the same time kept looking at us in the hope we would throw them some food.

The highlight of the floor show was when the cat thought it would be clever and jump on our car bonnet (hood, for our US and Canadian pals).
What the dopey thing hadn't realised was that the bonnet wasn't flat, it sloped. The sight of a cat with all four legs out and sliding down the bonnet till it landed in a heap on the floor was definitely the highlight of our day.

We threw some crumbs to the hens (generous lot aren't we?) and thanked them for the entertainment.

Then it was time to drive back  through the lovely Yorkshire countryside to where we were staying.
I really enjoyed my day by the River Aire. Hope we can go back again next year.

Molly will be back shortly with the last post about our Yorkshire holiday.

Blogaversary and a birthday.

Today is our 5th Blogaversary.

We fell out of our beds really early this morning so we could write a post.

A good start to the day.
We were happy and keen to get going.

Then it all went pear shaped.

We couldn't decide:

1. Who would write the post.

2.   Which photos to include

So we all went back to bed feeling rather grumpy.

Then we realised we shared our blogaversary with a very special birthday boy.

Happy 7th birthday Bogart.

Hope you have the best birthday ever and find a nice big stick to chew.

We are off to celebrate this special day with some delicious juicy bones.

Finni

We are so very sad.

Today our friend Finni crossed to the Rainbow Bridge.

He was one of the first UK Airedales we had the pleasure to meet.
We first met in 2008 when he showed Taffy and myself around his local area.

He took us to his local lake.
 Introduced us to the swans
Encouraged us to go swimming and advised
Taffy to stay a safe distance behind him.
More meetings followed and we had the most wonderful walks
 He was very patient.
He let us have a good sniff and investigate all his favourite places.
He made friends with little Robbie who we were looking after at the time.
 Finni was so handsome.
He invited us to his house.

Played with Taffy who was being an absolute toad that day and gently reminded him to watch his manners.

Put up with Robbie running rings around him and just stood and patiently waited for his batteries to run out.

Finni, you were the perfect host and an absolute gentleman.

We will miss you and send big big hugs to your sister Nelly and your Mum.

Run free dear boy at the Rainbow Bridge.
