Weekend guest and a Welshie get together

Shortly after Owen had his dunking in our pond on Friday we were told that Robbie our friend was going to come and stay with us for the weekend. Woo hoo more fun. Things were looking up.

He arrived on Friday evening in time for dinner and settled in very nicely. Saturday was such a gloriously sunny day so we had some great games in the garden.

However the best bit of the weekend just had to be the

Welsh Terrier Walk

in

Nonsuch Park Surrey

It was organised by Dooley and his Mum. They belong to WELTAF like us and we often meet up and go for lovely rambles. We were not sure how many other Welshies were going to come but hoped it would be quite a few.

Dooley arrived first and we said Hi.

While we were waiting for our friends to arrive quite a few dogs came over to see us.

I was not sure whether Dooley was trying to kill or kiss this muddy polar bear.

As more Welshies started to arrive we greeted each other

Then Dooley sniffed something tasty in his Mum's bag.

Word spread and we all piled in.
But it was all in vain the bag was securely sealed and lifted off the ground.

Next to arrive were the two youngest members of our group.

Alfie and Jody.

Last time I saw Alfie he was a little pup, he sure has grown up.

Alfie has unfortunately had some health issues recently. He has recovered now but it also turns out he is missing 20 of his adult teeth, they are just not there, he manages OK though and is a happy lad.

I formally introduced myself to Jody the young lass. (Don't worry Stella we are only friends)

Just before the start of the walk an Airedale came over and said hello, I think Molly was very pleased to see him but he did not stay around for very long which was a shame.

The youngsters were very excitable they ran around and around and nearly managed to topple one of the hoomans with their extender leads.

I was keen to start the walk. I was getting fed up with hanging around so off we all set.

We hadn't been walking for very long when I stopped dead in my tracks. Edwyn was up a tree. I couldn't believe my eyes at first, but yes it was Edwyn. He has quite a reputation in the club for climbing.

As we had all stopped to watch him, out came the cameras again. More time wasted it seemed to me. We were after all out for a ramble!

Another photo shoot.. grin and bear it is the phrase that came to my mind.

Molly, Me and Dooley

My half sister Duffy and handsome Me.

Jody, Duffy and Me.

Duffy standing next to me and we did not exchange one growl!
She was in a bit of a mood, I think she had got out of her basket the wrong side that morning!

Molly made sure that Robbie was OK
He was a very good boy and kept up with us all the time. His little legs had been going nineteen to the dozen.

After all the standing around having our photos taken we became bored and decided to mix things up a bit. Tee hee. Have to keep these hoomans on their toes you know.

We walked for around 2 hours and managed to dodge most of the rain showers and finally Dooley said it was time to go back and stop by the cafe and have something to eat and drink.

"Last one back has to pay"
We all raced back not wanting to be last.

Dooley kept everybody moving.
We had a lovely time and cannot wait till the next ramble.

Thank you Dooley for organising such a good day.
To finish the day off we came home and logged into the DWB Chat Pawty. It was certainly a very good weekend.

Scary Eye Contest and an apology to our friend.

Deetz is hosting a Scary Eye Contest.

I would, therefore, like to put this photo of Taffy into the contest. I think he looks ever so scary.

Now the second part of our blog entry is a little more delicate.

This morning our hooman received a phone call and we were delighted to be told our little buddy, Owen, the Schnauzer was going to pop down and see us. Normally we meet him at our local park but today our respective hoomans needed to discuss something and have a cup of coffee so we all had the opportunity to play together in our garden.

Owen is a smart young chap and he arrived looking his usual immaculate self.

We had a few good games of chasing around.

Generally pottered about and had a great time.

I became a little sidetracked and wanted to be nosey and see what was going on in the next door neighbours garden.

Have to say not too much was happening, I became rather bored climbed down off the garden bench and ambled off.

Now just a few minutes after this photo was taken disaster struck! There we all were congregated close to the small pond when there was a bit of a splash, well actually it was quite a big splash! Owen somehow found himself in the water! We are not really sure how he ended up there. Did he slip? Was he pushed? Or did he in fact jump in?

His hooman had to pull him out. I was very concerned and asked him if he was OK. He was a bit soggy but was very stoic about his sudden dip in the pond.

Taffy was nowhere to be seen! Was this a sign of guilt or a mere coincidence? I don't think we will ever know.

Our little friend had come to see us and had arrived looking so smart.

And looked so bedraggled as he left to go home.

Owen, please accept this apology for not being good hosts and taking better care of you. Please come again soon and we promise to try and keep you clean and dry next time we play.

Our holiday in Northumbria

Last week we went on holiday to Northumbria and stayed in a lovely dog friendly cottage.
The cottage was situated in the middle of the countryside and we were surrounded by sheep. Much to Molly's delight.
The cottage was ideally situated for walks in the Northumbrian forests.
Every day we would trek off either into the forests or go to Kielder Water.

We came across some unusual things. Molly found a "Hole in the Wall"

And a very strange tree.
Obviously not an evergreen!
Most mornings we would pop into the local village and the Hoomans would buy goodies for their lunch. Molly's favourite shop was..

Just look at all the pies, pasties and cakes.

Molly would try and decide which she liked the look of the best.

The meat and potato pie?

Or perhaps the steak and onion?

She was really in a quandary and her nose was in overdrive mode. The smells of all those delicious goodies were to die for.

At the end of each day Molly's favourite pastime was sitting by the window and watching the world go by. I was far too tired and just curled up in my bed and had a snooze before dinner time.

One of the days we woke up to.....................
Snow!!!!!!!!!!!

The poor sheep were covered

They didn't seem to mind though. They were just waiting for the farmer to come and give them their brekkie.

Now the most bestest day of our holiday was the day we went to Bamburgh on the North East Coast. The site of the castle has a history of occupation dating back to the 1st century BC. One of the oldest parts is a large Norman Keep, built by Henry II. In 1464, during the Wars of the Roses, Bamburgh became the first castle to suffer heavy damage from cannon fire. The ruins of the castle were restored and extended in the 18th and 19th centuries leaving little of the earlier fortifications.
The castle also contains the Armstrong Museum of Victorian Industrial Archaeology.

In front of the castle were some wonderful sand dunes. We had a lovely time sniffing and running around but the fantastic bit was when we got to the top of the dunes and saw what was the other side!

A great big sandy beach for us to play on.

We headed straight for the sea.

Molly played with a ball.

I rolled around with glee in the lovely soft sand.
Just look at that beach. We only saw 6 other hoomans while we played for several hours.

Here I am grinning with pleasure. I love beaches.

Molly had a paddle.

HERE COMES THE BEST BIT.....

Look..... Molly is off her training lead. As she had been a good girl and coming when called she was allowed to be free like me. We ran together up and down the beach, in and out of the sea and chased after the ball together.

Here she is charging up to the hoomans as soon as she was called. I was very proud of her.

She had some more paddles in sea by herself while I busied myself with the tennis ball.

She had such fun and it was a shame when we had to leave the beach.

A little further south along the coastline are the remains of Dunstanburgh Castle.
The site of the castle was occupied in prehistoric times. The principal remains date back to the 14th century. In 1313, Earl Thomas of Lancaster, cousin of Edward II of England began construction of a massive fortress. By the time of his execution in 1322, the castle was substantially complete. John of Gaunt improved the castle in the late 14th century.
The castle did not play a significant part in the border warfare against Scotland. In the Wars of the Roses the Lancastrians held the castle between 1462 and 1464. The castle fell steadily into decay as the damage was not repaired. It continued to deteriorate and was robbed of stone for the building of other places in the area.

We had a leisurely late afternoon stroll to the ruins. We had to have our leads on as there were lots of sheep and to be quite honest after all the running around on the beach we were happy to dawdle along.

We walked 2 miles to get to the ruins and then had to walk the 2 miles back. I am sure my legs were shorter after all the exercise we had that day.

We were starving hungry, it was past our dinner time. As the hoomans had scoffed fish and chips we as a very special treat, one we have never had before, were allowed a small portion to keep us going till we got back to the cottage for our dinner. I rather think it was the sound of our ribs crashing together and the hungry expressions on our faces that earned us this excellent treat.

It was so yummy.

On the last day of the holiday we met the Thuglets' hoomans for lunch in a Pub. We seemed to be in there ages while they chatted non stop and ate non stop and chatted some more.
The landlady was a lovely person she gave Molly and myself some lovely gravy bones to keep us occupied. She said we were very well behaved and we are definitely going to put the Pub on our list of "Must go back to places"
Well those are the highlights of our holiday.
We are off to another Welsh Terrier walk on Sunday with my buddies so will report back next week on how it all goes.
Cheerio for now
Taffy.
